Hand Me Down Dobes began in the early 1990’s as part of the Doberman Pinscher Club of Columbus, Ohio. We quickly grew and before long became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue organization serving the entire state. From the very beginning our founders had a clear vision and strong commitment to provide a much-needed safety net for Dobermans left with no where to go. Now as then, our dogs are rescued from animal shelters and humane societies, as well as owner surrenders. We do not turn away a Dobe in need due to medical condition or advanced age. We believe EVERY Dobe deserves a forever home even if that means hospice care or a permanent foster home.
We are proud to be celebrating our Twenty Fifth Year saving Dobermans! What can we attribute to our quarter century milestone?
From inception to today, we are committed to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding loving, forever homes for Dobermans.
We have a structured operating system including a cohesive and functional Board of Directors.
Our all-volunteer rescue is made up of compassionate and caring individuals who are highly knowledgeable and experienced Doberman owners that understand this breed.
We provide everything needed for our volunteers that foster including liability insurance and 24/7 on-call support.
We take the health and well-being of our dogs seriously and provide excellent veterinary care, nutritious food, and professional behavioral training when needed.
We remain in contact with our adopters to answer any questions and offer suggestions if needed throughout the dog’s lifetime. We are also here during the difficult and painful time of loss.
The majority of our adopters return to us when ready to adopt again.
If the dog needs to be returned to us for any reason, (that is part of the contract you sign at adoption), we will ALWAYS take the dog back. We make that commitment to every Dobe who comes into the HMDD family.
Whether you support us as an adopter, volunteer, or financial donor, your belief in our worthy cause enables us to save sweet, loyal, and devoted dogs that simply need that second chance to love and be loved.
We thank you for your support!
